Amravati: An occultist allegedly raped a 20-year-old married woman, who had three miscarriages, on the pretext of performing rituals for her safe delivery. The incident occurred on February 8 while offence was registered the next day.
The accused, identified as Digambar Ratan Chavan Maharaj, had approached the woman’s family on February 5 and performed some tantrik rituals. On February 7, the victim underwent severe stomach pain. After her father-in-law contacted the occultist, he called the woman to his home. He told the woman that he would ensure a safe delivery. Later, he allegedly forced himself upon her and threatened to perform black magic on her.
Gadge Nagar police have registered an offence under section 64 (1), 351 (2) of BNS, co-section 2, 3 (2) of Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act. The accused is reportedly absconding.
