Renowned director Anubhav Sinha recently shared memorable stories from his early television days, particularly his experience working with the iconic Shammi Kapoor on the TV show Shikast. For the unversed, the filmmaker began his career in TV, and one of his first projects involved casting Shammi Kapoor as a villain, a role the legendary actor was initially bemused by.

Sinha recalled the moment in a recent interview when he approached Shammi Kapoor for the negative role. The actor, taken aback by the offer, confronted Sinha, saying, “How dare you call me for this serial?” He then expressed his astonishment that Sinha would even consider him for such a role. Despite his surprise, Kapoor agreed to play the antagonist, though he set firm boundaries about his working hours, insisting that he would leave the set by 4-5 PM each day.
Sinha also shared an anecdote that revealed Kapoor’s generosity on set. After shooting the pilot, a scene required capturing the reflection of actor Vineet Kumar on a Mercedes. Shammi Kapoor, sitting behind Sinha, expressed his appreciation for the shot. When the director reminded him it was already 10 PM, Kapoor, whose car was used in the scene, responded humorously, “Gaadi meri hai” (It’s my car).” Despite it not being his shot, he stayed on set out of gratitude for the work being done.
