MG Majestor India launch details, Majestor vs Gloster, design, features, specs

Majestor will be positioned above the Gloster in MG’s line-up.

JSW MG Motor India recently debuted the MG Majestor SUV at the ongoing Auto Expo 2025. When it goes on sale in the coming months, it will not only be sold alongside the Gloster but will also be positioned above it. SAIC, MG’s parent brand, sells the Gloster and Majestor side by side in markets like Saudi Arabia, where it’s called the Maxus D90 and D90 Max, respectively. In other markets, the Majestor has been introduced as a mid-lifecycle facelift to the Gloster.

Both are three-row, ladder-frame, 4×4 SUVs. We take a look closer at what really sets them apart.

Although MG hasn’t revealed exact specifications yet, going by the dimensions of the international-spec D90 Max, the Majestor could measure 5,046mm in length, 2,016mm in width and 1,876mm in height – 61mm longer, 90mm wider and 9mm taller than the Gloster. Despite being larger, it’s wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,950mm.

Also, with just changes to the soft plastic parts, MG has managed to give the Majestor a completely different look. It gets a new grille, new headlamp and bumper assembly and new LED daytime running lamp signatures. At the rear, it gets a new connected LED tail-lamp setup and a new bumper. However, if you look closely, you’ll notice that most sheet metal parts, including the doors, fenders and bonnet, are identical to the Gloster.

MG hasn’t yet revealed the interior of the India-spec Majestor, but, referring to the international model again, the dashboard gets a completely new look with a new free-floating infotainment screen, new digital instrument cluster and a completely revised centre console. MG could also equip the Majestor with additional features over the Gloster in keeping with its more premium billing. The Gloster is offered in both 6- and 7-seater configurations, but it remains to be seen what seating configurations the Majestor gets.

Under the hood, however, there aren’t any changes. Both use a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that’s mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic. In India, the Gloster is available in two states of tune: 163hp/375Nm (single-turbo) and 218hp/480Nm (bi-turbo) – with the latter getting four-wheel drive. It is likely that the Majestor will be offered only in the higher state of tune with 4×4 as standard.

At its unveiling at the Auto Expo, MG said the Majestor will sit in a new “D+ segment”, which suggests a more premium positioning than the Gloster. It could also be sold through MG’s premium ‘Select’ channel to help differentiate between the two better.
