MOIL to Again Bring India’s Longest Triathlon to Nagpur

Nagpur: For the second time in as many years, MOIL Ltd will join the Tigerman Triathlon team to organise India’s longest triathlon race in Nagpur.
Amit Samarth, the finisher of Race Across America, is the race director of the two-day event, presented by the largest manganese ore producer in the country, MOIL Limited, with an aim to foster health, sports, and community empowerment. The competition will start with the participants swimming 5 km in the Ambazari Lake, before taking a 200 km cycle ride on the Saoner Road and concluding with a 50 km run at Civil Lines.
In addition to the country’s longest triathlon, an Olympic distance swim-cycle-run will be organised along with two different distance races on Feb 9. For those who are not good at swimming, a day-long duathlon race of short and long distance will be conducted on Feb 9.
“With an aim to give equal opportunities to amateurs, fitness freaks, and professional athletes, we are organising duathlon and triathlon races. Eight different distance category races in duathlon and triathlon will be conducted on Feb 8 and 9,” said Samarth during a press briefing on Monday.
In triathlon, a participant or a relay team needs to swim, cycle, and run to complete the race, whereas in duathlon, an athlete cycles and runs. MOIL CMD Ajit Kumar Saxena said, “Last year we never knew the response would be so good. Looking at the positive response that we received last year, we again decided to join them with an intention to make India’s longest race even bigger.”
Samarth added, “The event is set to attract nationwide participants with prize money up to Rs 5 lakh up for grabs. Even a Japanese participant will be seen in action.” While the 200 km cycling distance is the longest route, the toughest part will be running for 50 km and swimming for 5 km. For an amateur athlete, the shortest distance in triathlon will be in the super sprint solo and relay category where the participant needs to swim for 250 m, cycle for 10 km, and run 2 km to earn the finisher’s medal. Similarly, in duathlon, the same distances will be covered sans swimming.
Participants can register at www.tigerman.in. MOIL officials including Rakesh Tumane, Usha Singh, MM Abdulla, Rashmi Singh, and members of the Tigerman Triathlon team were present during the press briefing.
