IITian Baba urges education reform and spirituality to prevent student suicides, stressing the need for a student-friendly system.
Amid growing concerns over student suicides linked to the intense pressure of coaching centres in Kota, Abhay Singh, the IIT-Bombay graduate turned spiritual leader, has called for systemic changes in the education sector. Singh, who gained widespread attention during the Kumbh Mela 2025 for his unconventional journey, believes that the rising mental health crisis can be alleviated by transforming the education system and incorporating spirituality to help students manage stress, as reported by The Times of India.
Singh who studied at IIT Bombay for four years said he was missing something which led him to explore arts and photography. He eventually discovered his passion for spirituality. He added that he found true fulfilment only after spending time in places like Shimla, Mussoorie, and Dharamshala,
During his interview with TOI at Juna Akhara in Sector 20 of Maha Kumbh, Singh expressed frustration with the pressure students face. “We need an urgent change,” he said. “The education system should be student-friendly, not designed to harass students. Only with changes in education and the introduction of spirituality can we prevent suicides and depression,” he added.
Sharing an eye-opening experience, IITian Baba said, “I spent a day or two with an Aghori baba performing week-long sadhana (meditations)… life changed after that,” adding that his existence now feels unrestricted and boundless.
IITian Baba has over 1 lakh followers on Instagram where he regularly shares insights on spirituality, meditation, and the importance of personal growth. In one recent post, he reflected on the struggle to find his true self, writing, “There were so many things I did not want to do, but they were so deep within me. So, I cut out parts of my own self. With time, the more parts I chopped, the less remained. Now, I wonder who is it that is ‘left?’”
