“A selection meeting will happen in the afternoon tomorrow and it’s likely that Rishabh Pant will be the skipper for the away game versus Saurashtra,” says a senior DDCA official.
A Ranji camp of 38 probables was underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and the senior selection committee chaired by Gursharan Singh will pick the squad for the next game. Pant, Kohli and Harshit Rana were named as the three additional players but the participation was subject to availability.
Rana is unavailable as he is named in the squad for England T20Is and the association is yet to get an update from star India batter Kohli. Pant, meanwhile, confirmed his participation to DDCA president Rohan Jaitley day before yesterday and is all set to reunite with his teammates from junior days.
Delhi are currently fourth in their group with 14 points from 5 games and would need strong shows in the last two games vs Saurashtra (away) and Railways (home) to qualify for the knockouts. Group D is currently led by Tamil Nadu with 19 points and they are followed by Chandigarh who have the same number of points.
