Physical classes for grades 1 to 8 will remain suspended across all schools in Prayagraj, tomorrow, January 15, in the wake of traffic movement on Makar Sankranti. Instead, online classes will be held on the day.

“In accordance with the instructions given by Prayagraj, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti festival after this, in view of the convenience of transportation, classes 1 to 8 of Prayagraj district in English/Hindi medium schools recognised/aided by all councils and all boards, on 15.01.2025 is declared a holiday. Classes in schools on the said date. The classes will be held online,” reads the official order.

Meanwhile, winter vacation is about to end in most of the schools across North India. Winter vacation is going on in all the states including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. All schools are slated to open from tomorrow, January 15, 2025. Due to cold waves and fog in North India, orders were given to extend the winter vacation in all schools. That is why most of the schools remained closed for two weeks in January.

However, in Ghaziabad, all schools from classes 1 to 8 will stay closed until January 18, 2025, though school staff must still report to work. Schools are expected to reopen for students on January 20, 2025. Noida schools from nursery to class 8 will remain shut until further orders due to the ongoing cold wave and foggy conditions. On the other hand, in Gorakhpur, all government, Anganwadi, and private educational institutions were scheduled to reopen after winter vacations tomorrow.

Due to the ongoing cold wave, Lucknow’s District Magistrate, Suryapal Gangwar, had ordered the extension of school holidays for students from Class 1 to 8 until January 14, 2025. Additionally, Gangwar had said that online classes may be conducted if necessary. Schools for students in Class 9 to 12 will remain open, and where there are no holidays, online classes will be conducted, he had added.
