Everyone expected Vineet Kumar Singh to move ahead after Mukkabaaz including Vineet himself. “Yes, my attempt was to do a better quality of work after Mukkabaaz, but things didn’t happen that way, But yes, things have changed a lot from the situation earlier I was in before Mukkabaaz. Now, my effort is to do some more films like Mukkabaaz and I keep trying that. I also want to say to the audience that, when Mukkabaaz was released if more people had gone to theatres in large numbers, things would have been a lot different for me. Later a lot of people have seen it Sir, many people have seen the film and most of the people came and told me that they saw it on the OTT platform. If the audience had gone to theatres when the film was released and had watched the film in theatres, then today they would not have needed to say, ‘Vineet Bhai why don’t you do a film like Mukkabaaz?’ So my request to them is that when the film releases, please go and watch because when you watch the film in theatres, if the film releases in theatres, then it means a lot for an actor.
7 Years of Mukkabaaz: Vineet Kumar Singh reveals what it was like training for and shoot the Anurag Kashyap directorial; says, “If more people had gone to theatres, things would have been different”
Vineet is ever-grateful to his wife, then his girlfriend for making Mukkabaaz a reality. “Her name is Ruchiraa Gormaray. Now we are married, so we have seen that entire journey together because of that we have a different kind of bonding and we are happy together.” Speaking about life before marriage when he was training for the film he continues, “I used to wake up there at 3:30 in the morning. Ruchiraa used to also wake up, because I used to train four times, so there were four different diets each time, so Ruchiraa was handling all those things alone, so along with me, Ruchira did a lot of training. I owe my success in Mukkabaaz to her. Also to boxers like Vijender Singh and Neeraj Goyat who is currently like Mike Tyson. Neeraj Goyat is a very close friend of mine. Neeraj and I were shown fighting in Mukkabaaz. It is said that Hariyo na himmat bisario na Hari naam. So I just keep on taking the name of the Lord sand I always try to do good work and work with new people and unfortunately because of Covid, because Mukkabaaz had released just a year and a half before Covid. So Covid had a little impact on everyone, for me too it had a little more impact on my career and but now for the last three-four years I have been trying to do some more better work, now those things will be seen this year, right now there is a release for Maddock Films. Laxman Uttekar is the director .Then I have the much talked-about Super Boys of Malegaon , Reema Kagti’s film , my second with her after Gold then Jat is with Mythri Movie Makers who made Pushpa. Kabir Khan sir has a show with me as the main lead that he has produced for Amazon.
Mukkabaaz was released on January 7 years ago in 2018. “Mukkabaaz has always been a special film for me and will always be. It has given me a lot, gave me a lot of freedom as an actor and to do better work and because of Mukkabaaz I have got a distinct identity. I got the title of an actor not only in the film industry but in fact anywhere among the audience even today. When I go for the shoot, people remember Mukkabaaz. My character doesn’t speak. He lets his hands do all the talking. It all started like this, I thought of writing a film for myself as a lead, so my sister Mukti Singh and I wrote Mukkabaaz together. For almost two and a half years after writing I used to train for boxing every day. I used to train twice a day every day, and I thought that in six to eight months I will find some director or producer. But it dragged on for a long time, it took two and a half years or more than that. When Anurag Kashyap sir came as a director, he put a condition that if Vineet does not play the lead of the boxer the film will not be made. I was running out of money at that time, because I had not worked for almost two and a half years. If I had to get in front of the camera, then this is what I would do. So because of that stubbornness I was almost running out of money. So I sold everything left Mumbai went to Punjab with my girlfriend .In two and a half to three years my boxing training took me away from Mumbai. Where to go for training? I had tried many places in Mumbai but the kind of boxing I was looking for was not available to me here and the place where I was getting it was very far away from my house and it would take three and a half hours to come and go. So it didn’t seem worth it, so me and my girlfriend left. I talked to Vijender Singh in Punjab Patiala. Vijender Singh gave me some contacts and I stayed there and started training there. Sir, people in Punjab did not know that I was an actor. They used to treat me like a new boxer and it used to hurt a lot because they used to punch me like any boxer and there were a lot of injuries and it lasted a long time I was there for just over ten months but it brought a lot of changes in me after that. Eventually the boxers came to know that I am an actor. We became very good friends and even today we are very good friends. I became friends with a lot of boxers and that preparation helped me during the shoot of the film because there was no boxing action choreographer in the film.”
Continuing to explain his experience when they finally started filming Vineet adds, “There were action choreographers for routine fights but there was no boxing action choreographer as such. There was no choreographer because we were unable to afford it, we could not order it from outside. A lot of things were not possible because of the logistics, so all the fights that we see in Mukkabaaz, inside the ring or the training as a boxer, all those fights are real, they are not planned at all.So only Anurag Sir would shout ‘Action’ and I used to fight. The fear was that if I got punched, I would get injured in a split second. I had seen that many times when I was training in Patiala, Punjab. I had that experience. I tried not to get injured and such preparation helped me and it helped me a lot. I got injured during the shoot of Mukkabaaz and the shoot also stopped. It took three to four months for me to recover and then we started shooting and thankfully everything went well. Now that training is useful to me. Whenever I do an action film, the training really helps me. I remember very well when the film was released, people gave it a lot of love and people praised the film and my work. The song ‘Paintra’ became a boxing anthem. Even today when I meet people, they say that whenever they go to the gym or workout, they listen to this song at least once. I am really grateful to my producer, director and everyone who made Mukkabaaz happen. I contributed massively to the making of this film and thanks to all the critics, everyone gave me a lot of love, everyone wrote positively about me. I am really grateful for all those things. Whatever I am able to do today is because of Mukkabaaz.”
