We speak to Zubin Songadwala, Vice President of Operations at a hospitality group, about his car collection, his motorsport hero, favourite cars and more.
What are you driving/riding and why?
I drive a Mercedes-Benz W110 Fintail, a 1968 Volkswagen Beetle, a 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 and a 1944 Ford GPW, as I just love classic cars.
What’s next on your wish list?
Hang me if you want, but I wouldn’t mind giving an EV sedan a shot.
The most fun you’ve had with a car/bike?
It was with my Harley-Davidson Softail Heritage. It was among the first lot of Harleys imported. I literally purchased it as scrap and had it rebuilt from scratch with a new engine.
Dream money-no-object car/bike?
I’m an easy-to-please kind of guy with simple desires. I would be happy with a 2023/24 Ford Mustang 5.0 V8.
Who is your all-time greatest motorsport hero?
It has to be ‘The Doctor’ – Valentino Rossi. Nerves and other body parts made of steel.
Favourite road?
The Highway 101 from Seattle to San Francisco in the USA.
What’s on your automotive bucket list?
A road trip with my daughter on Route 66 in the USA in a classic Ford Mustang.
What would you do with your last litre of fuel?
Save it and take a whiff every now and then.
Your ideal 5-car/bike garage would be?
- Classic Ford Mustang
- Modern Ford Mustang
- Series 1 Land Rover
- Jaguar E-type
- Volkswagen Type 2 Bus
I’d also like to have a Yamaha V-Max and a 1940s Indian Chief.
What was your first car?
It was a Premier Padmini from the 1980s, with bucket seats and a floor shifter, sold to me by my dad for a princely sum of Rs 5,000.
