Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday promised to provide Delhi 1,400 million gallons of water, if voted back to power.

“We will install 2,500 tube wells. We will bring 250 million gallons per day (MGD) water from Trans-Yamuna. There are big ponds under the ground in South and West Delhi. We will extract 100 MGD water from there. 100 MGD water will be extracted from Wazirabad to Palla. My aim is to ensure that your tap has clean water 24 hours a day,” Kejriwal said, adding that very soon it will be available in entire Delhi.

The national capital, during peak summers, often witnesses a heat wave. This is worsened by acute water shortage that the city has recently been facing. The Aam Aadmi Party-led government this year in June alleged that Haryana is blocking water to Delhi and has asked them to release it.

Later, in October, water supplies in Lutyens’ Delhi was significantly disrupted due to rising pollution in the Yamuna River.

At least 27 prime locations, including government headquarters, were left with limited access to water.

Among the affected areas were Jor Bagh, Lodhi Colony, Golf Links, Pandara Road, the High Court vicinity, East and West Kidwai Nagar, Tughlaq Crescent, Ravinder Nagar, Khan Market, Lodhi Estate, Akbar Road, Amrita Shergill Marg, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Prithvi Raj Road, and Tees January Road.

In the morning, the AAP convener took to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) declare that he will make a “big” announcement at 12:30pm which “will make people of Delhi very happy”. This comes ahead of the 2025 assembly elections in the national capital.

Kejriwal has recently been taking to social media to declare the date and time of his announcements. On Sunday, the former Delhi CM said that AAP volunteers will undertake registration for the ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana’.

The programme aims to provide monthly financial aid of Rs 1,000 to women. The AAP chief urged potential beneficiaries to check their voter registration status and ensure they are not deleted as only registered voters will be able to avail of the benefits.

On Saturday, the ex-CM had announced the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship for the higher education of Dalit students. Kejriwal stated that under this scholarship scheme, the Delhi government will cover the expenses of Dalit students after they gain admission to top universities across the world.

Government employees from the Dalit community can also avail of this scholarship. Addressing a public event, Kejriwal said, “I want to ensure that no person from the Dalit community is deprived of higher education, for this, I am announcing the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship. Now any student from the Dalit community who wants to study in top universities across the world, the Delhi government will bear their expenses after the admission of the students…This scholarship will also be applicable to government employees from the Dalit community.”

Kejriwal said he launched the Dr Ambedkar Samman Scholarship scheme in response to what he described as Amit Shah’s “disrespectful” statement on the father of the Constitution.

Earlier, the AAP supremo had announced the Sanjeevani Yojana for Delhi residents over 60 years of age. Under the scheme, all senior citizens can avail free treatment in hospitals. Kejriwal was on Monday spotted in Delhi’s Jangpura area handing over the ‘Kejriwal Kavach’ card to the residents.

This card guarantees free treatment to all 60+ Delhi voters in government and private hospitals, under the Sanjeevani Yojana, if the AAP returns to power post the elections.
