As congratulatory messages poured in on social media, the Indian cricket team, competing with Australia in a 5-match Test series Down Under, also extended their best wishes to the rising Indian superstar. Gill, on behalf of the entire team, congratulated Gukesh for scripting history.

“Just want to say him congratulations from the entire Indian cricket team. To become the youngest world champion is the greatest feat,” Gill said while addressing the pre-match presser on Friday.

The young prodigy had nurtured this dream since the age of seven and received invaluable guidance from chess legend Viswanathan Anand on his journey to the pinnacle of the sport.

“I’ve been envisioning and working toward this moment since I was six or seven years old. Every chess player dreams of experiencing this, and now I’m living that dream,” Gukesh shared following his historic victory on Thursday.

He is expected to return to India over the weekend, where his home city is preparing to give him a hero’s welcome.

Gukesh’s remarkable year began with his triumph at the Candidates Tournament in Canada, where he became the youngest challenger in history to compete for the world title. He further bolstered his credentials by playing a pivotal role in securing the men’s team gold for India at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest.
