Balenciaga, renowned for its bold and unconventional approach to fashion, continues to push the boundaries under the creative direction of Demna Gvasalia. Known for introducing eccentric products like the Towel Skirt, tape bracelet, garbage bag, and ruined sneakers, the luxury brand has now unveiled a new footwear design for its Fall 2025 collection that’s captured the attention of fashion enthusiasts. The Zero, a new slip-on shoe, may be one of their most outlandish creations yet.
According to Balenciaga, The Zero “distills footwear to its essence” by pushing the barefoot shoe concept to its extreme. Crafted entirely from EVA foam and 3D-molded, the shoe leaves almost the entire foot exposed, with only a rounded heel and a big toe enclosure holding the foot in place. The shoe comes in black, tan, white, and brown shades, but given the brand’s reputation for high-end pricing, it’s expected to come with a hefty price tag.
The online reactions to The Zero have been mixed. While some fans found the design unusual, they were excited to try it out. One comment read, “Whatever this is, I want it.” Others shared their fascination, with one writing, “Damn my feet hurt looking at them. But I want them!!!” Another fan exclaimed, “Ok crazyyy, now give me hundreds of them.” One user even hoped the shoes would be priced lower due to their minimal design and material, saying, “Obsessed with these, hope they’re on the lower pricing side.”
However, not everyone was convinced by the design. Some expressed concerns about the comfort and practicality of the shoes. One comment pointed out, “They look uncomfortable and like they will easily slip off if someone is walking.” Another user humorously wondered, “What if you have wide Flintstones feet?” A more frustrated commenter added, “If I have to spend a bag on this I’ll be mad.”
Despite the mixed reactions, Balenciaga’s new design is undoubtedly another conversation-starter in the world of high fashion.
