Shiv Sena Candidate Calls for Vote Recount in Buldhana After Close Election Defeat | Nagpur News

Buldhana: A fierce contest in Maharashtra’s Buldhana assembly constituency saw Shinde Sena’s former MLA Sanjay Gaikwad defeating Uddhav Sena candidate Jayashree Shelke by a margin of 841 votes. Following her narrow defeat, Shelke has filed a request for a recount with the Election Commission, and deposited Rs2.36 lakh as the mandatory fee.
Jayashree Shelke raised concerns over discrepancies in the counting process and demanded a recount of the VVPAT (Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail) slips. However, the Election Commission clarified that only a technical inspection of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from five booths will be conducted, and VVPAT slip recounting is not permitted under the current rules.
Speaking to the media, Shelke alleged irregularities in the counting process and questioned the transparency of the election. She emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the machines used during the election.
The Buldhana constituency had witnessed a high-stakes battle between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde). Shelke’s decision to demand a recount has sparked political debates, with opposition parties using it as ammunition to question the credibility of the election process.
On the other hand, Sanjay Gaikwad and the Shinde faction have hailed their victory as a reflection of the people’s trust. Gaikwad dismissed Shelke’s allegations, calling them an act of desperation.
