Triumph Scrambler 400 affordable variant, Scrambler T4, expected launch


A few months after Bajaj launched the Triumph Speed T4 (a more affordable, city-focused version of the Speed 400), we have now laid eyes on what appears to be a Scrambler 400 that seems to be more affordable. 

  1. Tail lamp, grab rail, seat are all different units
  2. Some other new components point to cost cutting
  3. Could also have some mechanical changes

The visual differences between the Scrambler 400 X and the test mule seen here are rather nuanced but there are quite a few. For starters, the tail lamp is a lot simpler and is just a rectangular strip on this Scrambler 400 test mule. The grab rail is also a simpler looking unit that replaces the split handles on the current bike. However but the bigger change here is the black single-piece seat that appears to be a lot simpler in terms of the material used. 

Other tell-tale signs that this Scrambler 400 X test mule is a more budget-friendly version are a simpler rear brake lever as well as omissions of the handlebar brace and knuckle guards.

While these changes all point to Bajaj trying to lower the asking price of the Triumph Scrambler 400 X, there are some changes here that also beef up the presence of the bike. The side panels are new additions that replace the oval side panels of the current Scrambler 400 X and add some visual bulk to the rear of the bike. 

The Speed and Scrambler 400 X are visually slim bikes, which put them on the back foot in the eyes of the average Indian buyer who seems to favour visually heavy bikes from other makes. In addition to the new side panels, Bajaj has also given the Speed 400 chunkier tyres for 2025 and now even the Scrambler 400 X seems to be going down a similar route. 

It remains to be seen if this simpler version of the Scrambler 400 X will get the new engine seen in the Speed T4, with its reduced output figures of 31hp and 36Nm of torque. To give you an idea of where this affordable Scrambler 400 variant (the current 400 X is priced at Rs 2.64 lakh) might slot into Triumph’s Indian lineup, the price difference between the Speed 400 (Rs 2.40 lakh) and the Speed T4 (Rs 2.17 lakh) currently stands at Rs 23,000. 

While this test mule does have some diagnostic ports hanging out from under the seat, it does appear to be quite close to production-ready and a launch could happen in early 2025.
