Having completed his much-anticipated and high-profile move to Real Madrid this summer, Kylian Mbappe was expected to help overpower Los Blancos to make them seemingly undefeatable. But, their season has been anything but the same.

Defending UCL Champions Real Madrid are in the midst of an appalling slump, that has seen Los Blancos fall flat to their arch-rivals Barcelona 4-0, and then be ridiculed by AC Milan in a 3-1 loss at home.

The defeat to AC Milan marked Real Madrid’s second loss in four games in the Champions League 36-team phase. On top of it all, recent reports have also suggested that the Frenchman Mbappe is feeling jaded at the club, after being forced to play out of his natural position on the wing.

An article published by Sport claimed that Kylian Mbappe is now “fed up” and he does not “see himself playing as a striker” for Real Madrid.

The report went on to claim that Mbappe does not want to play as a center forward and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s options are nil. Both Mbappe and Vinicius Junior preferring to play down the left flank has also created a tricky situation for Ancelotti.

Moreover, the report claimed that Real Madrid’s entourage has started to single out Mbappe as the main problem. This is understood to have concerned Mbappe’s camp.

Former Real Madrid goalscorer Karim Benzema recently said that Kylian Mbappe must learn to play as a central striker at the club.

“The problem, in my opinion, is that [Mbappe] is not a central striker, even with the national team, every time he plays as a number nine he doesn’t feel right, because that’s not his position,” Benzema said on Spanish television show El Chiringuito, as per BBC.

“On the left, he’s got a guy who’s at the same level as him, Vinicius, so there is a problem, you can’t play Vinicius as a number nine or on the right, because when he plays on the left he makes the difference in every game. Mbappe isn’t a real number nine. People ask a lot of him and he’s under a lot of pressure, this isn’t Paris St-Germain,” Karim Benzema added.

Currently, Real Madrid lie second in La Liga, nine points behind table-toppers Barcelona, as Osasuna gears up to face them next on Saturday, November 9.
