Nagpur: Started a month ago, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s medical health department’s four physiotherapy centres for differently-abled individuals and senior citizens over 60 years of age have catered to 799 patients.
The centres were started on Oct 6 and they offer services at q nominal cost to all while differently-abled and senior citizens do not have to pay.
Under the guidance of municipal commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary, the centres were set up at Indira Gandhi Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Pachpaoli Maternity Home, Sadar Diagnostic Centre, and Mahal Diagnostic Centre.
Chaudhary said the physiotherapy centres will benefit the general public. Additional commissioner (City) Anchal Goyal has urged citizens to utilise these services. Medical Officer (health) Dr Deepak Selokar and additional medical officer (health) Dr Narendra Bahirwar’s team are working on this initiative.
Dr Selokar explained that physiotherapy is a science-based healthcare service that facilitates normal movement and function. Physiotherapy services are essential for the differently-abled, elderly, pregnant women, and patients with serious ailments to become physically capable.
The services available at these centres include manual therapy: Encompasses joint mobilisation, massage, and stretching to alleviate pain, stiffness, and swelling. Through exercise, underlying conditions are addressed. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) Therapy: A therapeutic intervention utilised in physiotherapy, magnetic therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, taping, hydrotherapy, diathermy, ultrasound, and phonophoresis facilities are also provided.
The NMC has appointed a physiotherapist and an assistant at each centre. Equipment has been provided by the health department. This included short wave diathermy, UV radiation, muscle stimulator, TENS, traction, ultrasound machine, etc.
These devices assist in improving brain balance and coordination, enhancing muscle efficiency, treating various ailments, and addressing neurological issues in young children to support their growth and development.
