NAGPUR: Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that police are following some definitive leads in the shocking murder of NCP (Ajit Pawar Faction) leader Baba Siddique, but he declined to confirm the involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Speaking to reporters in Gondia, Fadnavis criticized veteran leader Sharad Pawar for politicizing the issue following Pawar’s statement about the “deteriorating law and order situation.”
When asked about the possibility of the Bishnoi gang being behind the murder, Fadnavis said, “Various theories are being floated in the media, and everyone is reporting news according to their whims. Many theories are emerging, but there is nothing official about it.
All I can say is that some angles have come to light, and investigations are ongoing. The police will share information that won’t impact the investigation with the media.”
Fadnavis added, “The police have arrested two individuals in this case. The investigation is currently underway, and some clues are surfacing, but it would not be appropriate to discuss it here.”
In response to Sharad Pawar’s criticism of the law-and-order situation, Fadnavis remarked, “Sharad Pawar is focused solely on gaining power. Even after such a serious incident, he can only think about coming to power, while we are focused on Maharashtra.”
Fadnavis expressed that Siddique’s death was a personal loss for him. “It’s a very sad incident, as I had a close friendship with Baba Siddique. We worked together for many years in the legislature. It’s a shock for all of us.”
