Volkswagen Taigun sales, price, exports

Volkswagen India has sold 1,00,000 units of Taigun, which was launched here three years ago on September 23. As per wholesale numbers by SIAM, 67,140 Taiguns were sold in the domestic market till August-end and 32,742 units of it were exported, adding up to a total of 99,882 units. Factoring in the dispatches in the first few days of September, the figure for which is not known, the company would have achieved the 1,00,000 units sales milestone.

From the first table, one can see that the Taigun saw its highest domestic sales of 21,736 units in the financial year ended March 2023 (FY23), and dispatches have been slowing down slightly since then. As for exports, the peak was 12,621 units in FY2024.  

The Taigun marked Volkswagen’s foray into the midsize SUV segment, where it now faces fierce competition from the Tata Curvv, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder and other SUVs. It is offered only with two petrol engines – a 115hp, 175Nm, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit or a 150hp, 250Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged unit – both of which get manual and automatic options.

The Taigun is currently priced between Rs 10.90 lakh and Rs 18.70 lakh, as there are special offers available on entry-level and top-spec variants. In addition, potential buyers of the Taigun could avail of up to Rs 3.07 lakh in discounts and benefits during the festive season.

A little over a year after its launch, the Volkswagen Taigun secured a five-star Global NCAP crash-test rating, and in June this year, the SUV was fitted with six airbags as standard.
