LML Star, patent approval, expected launch, design details

Lohia Machines Limited (LML), a well-known Indian brand from the 1990s and early 2000s, made a bold return to the spotlight in 2022 with the unveiling of its Star electric scooter concept. Now, it has taken a step forward by securing a design patent for the e-scooter, marking a new chapter in the brand’s legacy and its entrance into the evolving EV market.

The LML Star was originally produced and sold in various versions from 1997 to 2017. In collaboration with Saera Electric Auto Private Limited (SEAPL), the brand has revived the iconic name in the form of an e-scooter. The upcoming electric scooter was designed in collaboration with experienced Italian designers who have worked with major names like Ducati, Ferrari, Yamaha and Kawasaki.

The LML Star sports a maxi scooter design with a flat floorboard and red accents under the seat and on the pillion grab handle. The front apron has a dual-tone design with DRL and a photosensitive headlamp. It remains to be seen how the Star rivals the likes of Ather and Ola in the EV market.

Not much is known about the scooter’s performance, but we can see from the images that it has a mid-mounted motor that powers the rear wheel via a belt drive system. The scooter is suspended on a telescopic fork and a side-mounted monoshock. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes on the front and rear.
