It was an excellent Monday for Tumbbad as the collections were even better than the opening day. On Friday the film had collected Rs. 1.65 crores and now on Monday Rs. 1.69 crores have come in. Anything above Rs. 1 crore would have been decent and what the film has actually achieved is superb, as it signifies that now it will stay in circulation comfortably till Dusshehra.
The Sohum Shah starrer has now gathered Rs. 9.03 crores and by evening it will get into a double digit score. The film should stay on top of Rs. 1.50 crore mark right till Thursday and then second Friday is bound to be bigger than the first Friday due to National Cinema Day. This means that the lifetime of this horror fantasy film will comfortably go past the Rs. 25 crores mark, which will make it a good success.
This also means that the trend will now begin for many films from the past to re-release. A word of caution though – This path needs to be treaded carefully. It makes sense to revive only those films which have “not been too successful” at the box office but have either gained cult status over the years or become popular in pop culture. If every filmmaker starts reviving their offerings from the past with just a nostalgic value attached to it, or in the hope that their flop will now turn into a hit, then this trend too will die as quickly as it has begun.
