This will be MG’s first new product in partnership with JSW.
MG Motor India is gearing up to introduce an all-new EV to the Indian market, that will be called the Windsor EV upon launch. It’s a crossover-style MPV sold as the Wuling Cloud EV in Indonesia by the parent group SAIC. This will be MG’s third EV in India, following the Comet and ZS EV, and the first from its new partnership with JSW. As we await its debut in the coming weeks, here are answers to some of the most popular queries about the upcoming electric MG.
What exactly is the MG Windsor EV?
The Windsor EV is a badge-engineered version of the Wuling Cloud EV, similar to how the Comet EV is based on the Wuling Air EV from China. It can be best described as a cross between a large hatchback and an MPV, measuring about 4.3 metres in length with a 2,700mm wheelbase. But while its stance and shape are like an MPV, it’s only a 5-seater with two rows of seating.
What will be the interior of the MG Windsor EV be like?
The Windsor EV will be underpinned by a born-electric platform, so it will make full use of the space and packaging such architectures allow. Its interior will feature a large floating touchscreen for most controls, resulting in a minimalist design with few physical switch gears. The international model gets front seats that fully recline into “sofa mode.” Teaser videos have confirmed a panoramic sunroof, and it also gets an ADAS suite with a 360-degree camera in markets abroad.

How much range will the MG Windsor EV have?
The Windsor EV gets two battery pack options overseas: a 37.9kWh and a 50.6kWh, with 360km and 460km range, respectively. It’s powered by a front-axle mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 134hp, but it’s yet to be confirmed which version will be available in India.
How will the Windsor EV differ from the ZS EV?
The ZS EV and Windsor EV are fundamentally different under their skin. The ZS EV is based on a heavily updated internal combustion engine platform and has a traditional SUV design, whereas the Windsor EV will sit on a born electric skateboard platform and it features a crossover shape with short overhangs and a long wheelbase maximising the potential of the skateboard architecture. Their interiors are also designed quite differently.

What’s the expected price, launch date of MG Windsor EV?
MG aims for high localisation levels with the Windsor EV, including that of the battery pack. According to sources, MG plans to price the Cloud EV below Rs 20 lakh in India, which means it will find itself right in the thick of the EV market with the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400 and also the upcoming Tata Curvv EV. It is expected to be positioned below the existing ZS EV.
MG hasn’t shared an exact launch date yet. The company has already started with the marketing campaign for the Windsor EV with multiple teasers, so the official debut can be expected by late August or early September.
