Nagpur: In a significant development for Nagpur’s infrastructure landscape, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has been awarded contract for construction of six elevated Metro stations by Mahametro under Phase 2 expansion of Nagpur Metro project. The contract valued at ₹187.34 crore pertains to Package C-08 along Reach 2B of the Orange Line’s northern extension.
The scope of this contract includes the construction of Metro stations at Cantonment, Kamptee police station, Kamptee Municipal Council, Dragon Palace, Golf Club, and Kanhan River Metro station.MahaMetro had invited bids for this contract in January 2024, setting a deadline of 30 months (2.5 years) for completion.
RVNL emerged as lowest bidder during bidding process, however details of competing bid were not disclosed. Under phase 2, four new routes totalling 43.8km and 32 stations are planned. The routes include Automotive Square to Kanhan (13km, 12 stations), Mihan to Butibori MIDC ESR (18.5km, 10 stations), Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar (5.6km, 3 stations), and Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna (6.7km, 7 stations). This expansion is part of Phase II of Nagpur Metro, estimated to cost about ₹6,717 crore.
The Detailed Design Consultants (DDC) for these six stations were appointed by MahaMetro in August 2023. Earlier this week, Mahametro also received bids for construction of a 5.9km viaduct connecting these stations, with prominent firms like Tata Projects and ITD Cementation participating.
RVNL’s involvement in Package C-08 marks its third contract in Phase 2 of Nagpur Metro project. Previously, the company secured contracts for Package C-01 (Reach 1A) and Package C-05 (Reach 1A & 2A).
‘Packages’ refer to specific segments or sections of the overall construction and development. Each package typically encompasses a set of tasks, such as constructing stations, laying tracks, or building infrastructure along a designated stretch of the Metro route. ‘Reach’ delineates different sections or phases within a Metro project. It divides the entire Metro network expansion into manageable parts, based on geographic and operational considerations.
