Modi also revealed he was shocked to see Pan’t mother self-confidence and belief she had that her son would come out victorious. The Prime Minister lauded Pant’s sheer honesty when he acknowledged his own mistake for the unfortunate incident.
Pant also reflected on the challenges he faced during his recovery journey, as he encountered doubts from others about his ability to return to the cricket field.
During his interaction with PM Modi, Pant said, “1.5 years ago I had an accident, so I was going through a very difficult phase, I remember that very well because your call came to my mother and my mother told me that Sir had said that there is no problem, then I became a little calm mentally. After that, during recovery, I used to hear from people whether I would ever be able to play cricket or not, so for the last 1.5 years I was thinking that I should come back to the field and do better than what I was doing.”
Modi hosted the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team for breakfast on Thursday during which, he said, there were “memorable” conversations on the side’s experiences through the marquee event co-hosted by USA and the West Indies.
Pant made his comeback during the 2024 IPL season where he valiantly led the Delhi Capitals side and went on to score 446 runs in 13 games while averaging 40.55 which earned him a spot in the squad for the World Cup.
The mercurial left-hand batsman scored 171 runs in eight matches for the team and was solid behind the stumps in the T20 World Cup.
