The growth in tourist arrivals is not enough and it has to be also sustainable, said Kuldeep Singh Chandela, who was elected as the new president of Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of Rajasthan (FHTR). This year again, the state attracted record number of tourists. While the industry is excited at the growth, it said that they now have a bigger task at hand.
“We need to have a fresh look at our monuments, the management of destinations and the infrastructure. Tourism has to be sustainable and responsible,” added Chandela.
Surendra Singh Shahpura, senior vice president of FHTR, also echoed similar sentiments. Shahpura said, “The influx of tourists has exposed cracks in the way we manage some of our destinations. As we look forward to hosting bigger number of tourists, the onus is now on the industry and state government to create a new strategy.”
Khalid Khan and Rajendra Singh Pachar were elected as vice presidents, while Virendra Singh Shekhawat and Tarun Bansal were made secretary general and joint secretary respectively. Rishipal Singh is now the treasurer.Pachar said, “The PM’s call to promote India as a wedding destination has come as a big boost for Rajasthan. Now, we need to upgrade our infrastructure and develop logistics capabilities to meet the discerning needs of the high-end weddings.”
