NAGPUR: Nagpur city has been ranked 86th in Swachh Survekshan 2023 among 400 odd cities having above 1 lakh population. The city stood at the 17th position in the state.
In 2022 Swachh Survekshan, among 47 cities having above 10 lakh population, the city stood 27th.
As per the report card, the city scored 98% in door-to-door collection of waste, 100% in source segregation and 89% in waste generation and its processing.
With the reuse of treated sewage water, the NMC has managed to obtain water plus certificate. The civic body already had ODF++ certificate after the city became open defecation free a couple of years ago.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) did not agree with the results, as the city was considered under the category of 1 lakh plus citizens.
“In 2022 survekshan, the city was judged under the category of 10 lakh plus citizens. So, the civic body is verifying the categories under which the city was judged,” said a senior official from the NMC’s solid waste management department.
