Nagpur: Overlooked for Vidarbha’s first two Ranji matches, allrounder Akshay Karnewar put Navniketan Cricket Club on top by picking up all seven wickets to fall on Day 1 of their Guzder League ‘A’ Division 2-day match.
With Karnewar at his destructive best, Medical Representatives Cricket Club (MRCC) were restricted to 176 for 7 at Central Railway Ground.The Day 1 saw only 55 overs being bowled as the start was delayed due to wet pitch.
Navniketan opted to bowl and Karnewar, who opened the attack with Virendra Patel, exploited the conditions to the hilt. Karnewar’s wicket-taking spree started in the eighth over when he cleaned up opener Zubairoddin for 5. He went on to take six more as MRCC were restricted to 176 for 7. At the stumps, skipper Nayan Chavan was holding the fort for MRCC with an unbeaten 68.
