According to the Kayamkulam police, the official vehicle of the Home secretary collided with a truck on National Highway 66 around 12.30 a.m. The couple’s son Sabari, driver Abhilash and family friends — Pranav and Saurav — were also injured in the accident. They were admitted to a private hospital at Parumala in Pathanamthitta district and are out of danger. “Of the six admitted to the hospital, four including Venu are in the intensive care unit. But all are in stable condition,” said an official of St. Gregorios Medical Mission Hospital, Parumala.

Dr. Venu and others were heading to Thiruvananthapuram from Kochi when they met with the accident. The lorry was going to Kochi from Tenkasi. “Home secretary’s vehicle collided head-on with the truck. We have launched an investigation into the accident,” said an official.
