Eponymous fashion and jewellery designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee will showcase exclusive jewellery and a mask for charity fashion event The Animal Ball with animal charity Elephant Family online on June 22. The showcase will see Sabyasachi use endangered craft techniques to pay homage to endangered animals.
The Animal Ball is designed to raise funds for Elephant Family, bring together designers, and raise awareness about animal conservation. For this year’s ball, Sabyasachi has created an exclusive Bengal tiger mask and necklace which will be showcased on Instagram live on June 22, the brand announced on Facebook.
“I’ve always said that I’m a conservationist and not a disrupter,” wrote Mukherjee on Facebook about his involvement in the event. “This was of course, in context to India’s heritage of art, craft and textiles. When I met Ruth Ganesh from the Elephant Family, she reminded me of the harsh reality of the many endangered species and habitats in my backyard. We meet often now, so we never forget. The Bengal tiger, the gharial and the mighty elephant. The health of river ecology and how it benefits everyone from the endangered otters to frogs and dragonflies. Building wildlife underpasses and protecting corridors for safe passage and co-existence. How conservation is a commitment across lives, livelihoods and entire eco-systems.”
Sabyasachi’s Bengal tiger necklace for the event has been made from 18 carat gold and is adorned with a 109.95 carat Zambian emerald and a 5.06 carat old mine cut diamond. The necklace also features multicoloured and organic gemstones and brilliant cut diamonds.
“For me, the key to conserving craft has always been economic sustainability,” wrote Mukherjee. “For them, the key to conserving wildlife is sustainable co-existence. Since 2016, it’s been my honour to work with the Elephant Family, and they continue to inform my mission and vision for how we build, create and conserve.”
