International retail business Lulu Group has opened the doors to its first ‘Lulu Hypermarket’ in the state of Tamil Nadu. The large-scale store is located in Lakshmi Mills in Pappanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore and houses product categories including beauty and fashion.
“We are committed to providing Coimbatore residents with a world-class shopping experience,” wrote Lulu Group on Linkedin. “Our hypermarket offers a wide range of products and services, including hot and cold ready-to-eat food, and a live kitchen, fresh produce, grocery, electronics, beauty products, home appliances, and more.”
The hypermarket was inaugurated on June 14 by the Government of Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Industries, Investments, and Commerce T R B Rajaa along with members of Lulu Group. The hypermarket represents the business’ first large-scale project in Tamil Nadu after it signed a memorandum of understanding to invest Rs 3,000 crore in the area. The business has a number of projects planned for the state including a logistics hub and a rice mill.
Lulu Group has asserted that the store is the largest hypermarket in Tamil Nadu, India Retailing reported. The store measures close to 1.1 lakh square feet and Lulu Group expects the project to generate more than 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Lulu Group is run by Kerala-born entrepreneur M A Yusuff Ali and is headquartered in Abu Dhabi. The business launched in the year 2000 and runs over 250 hypermarkets across the world along with its other retail concepts.
