The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council is preparing a detailed project report to develop Tehri lake and surrounding areas with an estimated total cost of INR 7,708 crore.
With an aim to promote water sports and aero sports activities in the region, the project is expected to provide job opportunities to over 80,000 people in 173 nearby villages. A major component of the project would be a ring road encompassing Tehri Lake.
In a recent meeting, tourism minister Satpal Maharaj reviewed the feasibility report and the land acquisition details.” Besides benefiting the locals and promoting tourism, this route can also be used by the Char Dham pilgrims,” the minister said.Under the project, there are plans to develop Koti Colony, New Tehri, Tiwar Village, Dobra Chanti, Tehri Lake and Madan Negi as clusters. Besides this, key factors proposed are construction of tent colony, tourism road from Koti Colony to Dobra-Chanti, home stay clusters, Dobra Chanti Park, multi-level car parking, integrated information centre and entertainment complex among others.
