6 Women Die In Boat Capsize In Gadchiroli | Nagpur News

Nagpur: Six women farm labourers were drowned after their boat capsized in Wainganga river near Ganpur village in Gadchiroli at 11am on Tuesday. They were on their way from Gadchiroli to work in chilli fields in Kot village in Chandrapur’s Pombhurna tehsil. The bodies of two women, Jijabai Raut (50) and Pushpa Zade (45), have been so far recovered.
There were eight other women workers in another boat crossing to Chandrapur, which too capsized but its occupants miraculously survived.
It’s learnt the two groups would mostly walk across the exposed river bed on any other routine day. One of the deceased women was the wife of a local police warden (Patil) who used to accompany them to Chandrapur. Sources said water was released from Chamorshi’s Chichdoh barrage into the river a couple of days ago which caused the water level to swell. The river currently has around nine-feet water which is sufficient for a boat to capsize, said sources.
