4th leopard death in hit-and-run on Amt-Ngp highway in 45 days | Nagpur News

Amravati: A leopard, dashed by a recklessly driven unknown vehicle, died on Amravati-Nagpur National Highway on Friday morning. This is the fourth death of a leopard in a hit-and-run case in Amravati in last one-and-half months.
Police said some passersby spotted a dead leopard on Amravati-Nagpur National Highway. Forest staffers immediately reached the spot on getting information and performed the panchanama. During panchanama it became clear that the leopard had died after sustaining severe injuries in a dash by an unknown vehicle.
The carcass of the leopard was taken to Wadali range forest office area where post-mortem was performed in the presence of forest officers and members of wildlife committee. Later, the leopard was cremated as per forest rules.
This is the fourth death of a leopard in hit-and-run cases in Amravati in last one month. A leopard was found dead in Chirodi jungle area on Dec 7. The next day, one more leopard died in the same area. On Dec 20, a 2-year-old leopard died between Wadali to Mahadev Khori on Amravati-Nagpur National Highway. The four accidental death of leopard in last one-and-a half months has raised concern among wildlife enthusiasts. Citizens have demanded forest department to implement measures for the security of the leopards.
