A second-year college student was run over by a train while searching for his earphones on the railway track. The incident occurred near Kodambakkam railway station in Chennai on Friday. Government railway police rushed to the spot and sent him to a hospital, where he was declared dead, reported Times Of India.
The 19-year-old student has been identified as Rajagopal. He was a second-year BSc student at Govt Arts College, Nandanam, and was staying at a govt hostel in Saidapet. He was a native of Pudhu Sorathur near Chinnasalem in Villupuram district.
Rajagopal worked part-time with a caterer. As per the report, after his college was over on Friday evening, he was heading to his workplace when the incident took place. His Bluetooth earphones fell and landed on the railway tracks. He got off the train at Kodambakkam station to search for the earphones and walked onto the tracks to do so. However, he was unaware of an approaching train and was run over and died on the spot, the report stated.
Police are currently investigating the matter.

In a similar incident, a few days ago, a 16-year-old girl died while crossing the railway tracks at Saphale Railway Station in Maharashtra. She had her earphones plugged in at the time and did not hear the approaching express train’s horn and was fatally struck. She was run over by a train and died on the spot.
The 16-year-old girl, identified as Vaishnavi Rawal was a resident of Makane village in Palghar. Despite the express train staff’s efforts to avert the tragedy, sounding the horn repeatedly, it was too late. Vaishnavi’s accidental death left the entire train in shock, with passengers crowding the railway station in the aftermath.
